General State of Horticulture Sub-Sector from the Point of Processing Industry and Mending Relations Between These Two Sectors

SUMMARY

Many fruits and vegetables are produced in Turkey for fresh consumption but appreciable percentage of total production is utilised as raw materials for processing by the food industry. The food sector, however, faces many problems between production and processing steps.

Efforts were made by this study to elucidate the problems in the provision of raw materials demanded by the food industry. Informative data were gathered from the relevant processors and facilities involved in the freezing preservation concentrated in Manisa and Bursa provinces. present status of the sector was brought to light and possible solutions to the problems of the sector related to raw materials were suggsted.
