SUMMARY

This study was under taken; to locate planting areas which have the most suitable ecological conditions to yield plants which high aesthetics and varietal functional at the maximum level, to observe the development habits in different ecologies, on the understand the relationship between normal aprotechnological applications and the growth and development based on scientific inputs.

The study was conducted at the Yalova Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute between 2001 - 2003.

Magnolia grandiflora L. saplings which 100-120 cm and 3 (1+2) ages were used in the study.

In this experiment comparison of four different locations (N-NW, S-SW, open space, among the deciduous tree’s) were intended because of different micro-climatic effects and different growth level expectations and two different field were also included care treatments (60 X 80 cm holes with specially prepared soil mixture and regular fertilization regime).

This study used split plots nested in randomized blok design with two repetition. The study supplied the effects of various microecologic factors on the establishment of Magnolia grandiflora L.

The results of this study demonstrated that seedlings planted in the N-NW zone and in 60 x 80 cm holes with specially prepared soil mixture and regular fertilization regime had the best growth and establishment performance among all the treatments.

Results indicated that orientation and field care should be taken into consideration for planting this ornamental tree for improved success.
